Holistic Chiroproactic

Chiropractic is the art and science of healing the body through manipulation of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. Chiropractic philosophy maintains that misalignment or restrictions in the spine, termed "subluxations", can cause pain, neurological dysfunction, loss of motion, organ dysfunction, and disrupt the balanced flow of the body's innate healing energy and intelligence. Chiropractic manipulation restores movement and alignment to the spine, relieves pain, muscle spasm and pressure on nerves, and restores the balanced flow of innate energy to promote healing.

Chiropractic physicians are considered "portal of entry physicians" and have the responsibility to diagnose pathological conditions and refer patients to appropriate health care providers if the condition is outside of their scope of practice. Chiropractic physicians are licenced to take and interpret x-rays, requisition advanced diagnostic testing, draw blood, and analyze blood chemistry as part of their diagnostic protocols. Chiropractic treatment is useful for a wide range conditions, including spinal pain, musculoskeletal injuries, headaches, chronic pain or fatigue syndromes, digestive problems, stress, and many other conditions.

Holism or Holistic refers to a philosophy of healing that embraces the whole person, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects. As a Holistic Chiropractic Physician, I take the time to relate to my patients as individuals and not just spines that need adjusting. I recognize the importance of the energy body in healing and do energy work, cranial sacral therapy and myofascial release work on all of my patients. I frequently use acupuncture for musculoskeletal conditions. I understand the relationship of nutrition to health, and do nutritional evaluation and consulting with my patients. When emotional or spiritual issues arise, I talk with my patients about them, and refer them to my colleagues who specialize in these areas. I also use my intuitive diagnostic skills to recommend flower essences to help patients process these issues. I see the spine and cranial system as a tremendous conduit of energy, which if blocked or imbalanced can affect the person on every level. I use manual manipulation techniques to unblock and re-balance the spinal and cranial energy systems. My main diagnostic system is Applied Kinesiology, which is based of the concept of the "triad of health"; mental/emotional/spiritual, body chemistry, and body structure (see Applied Kinesiology).

Making the commitment to be a holistic healthcare practitioner means that I must constantly strive for balance, integration and a deeper understanding of healing within myself. But the emotional and spiritual rewards of a holistic practice are worth the challenges.
